Pursuit Terminator

As the fleeing suspects vehicle approaches one of the PURSUIT TERMINATOR Systems it is Deployed by an Officer from a safe position away from the Roadway. The Stretch Film Material drops out of the Deployment Container and falls toward the Roadway below. The Bottom Edge is Weighted with A soft self-dispersing material that harmlessly comes out when struck by the fleeing vehicle. The Stretch Film Material then becomes a barrier in the path of the vehicle. As the vehicle passes through the material it wraps around the front of the vehicle (including under the Bumper). This completely blocks the necessary Air Inlet for the Radiator. Without the needed Air Flow through the Radiator and the Engine begins the Overheating Sequence. Progressively the Engine Coolant reaches Higher Temperatures to the point where it starts to be purged from the sealed Cooling System.

Due to the fact that the Air Flow is still obstructed the Temperature continues to rise as long as the Engine is running. This always left unaddressed will lead to the failure of the Engine. As this is a slow but progressive cycle of events, it maintains the function of the Steering, Braking and other potential and essential control issues until the vehicle comes to a SLOW CONTROLLED STOP!

Depending on numerous variables involved with this Overheating Sequence the time span from Deployment to final Stoppage will vary. It could be as short as a couple of Minutes or as long as 5 to 10 Minutes. However, at some reasonable point in time the vehicle WILL STOP!

At the Reading, Pennsylvania Demonstration, the Officer Driving the "suspect vehicle" made the following comment to a Reporter from the Reading Eagle Newspaper, "But it definitely will stop a car if the engineering is perfected," said West Reading Criminal Investigator Matthew R. Beighley, who drove the car for the demonstrations."

The Demonstrations purpose was to prove the Concept and Demonstrate the principals of how the Pursuit Terminator works! Due to limited resources at this time this is the best that could be achieved. However, this event also provided additional data to assist in perfecting the complete System.
